You don’t have to be the religious type to enjoy some of the most beautiful and unique monasteries in Romania, more specifically, in the Bucovina region. This tour goes beyond anything ever imagined, with rich history that’s just waiting to be told, either by us, or better yet, told by the locals themselves. It’s amazing what the human mind and its dedication can accomplish, and it’s something you need to see to believe. 1 Day TourIasi-Voronet-Humor Monastery-Putna-Sucevita-Moldovita

On this one day, get to experience Bucovina at its peak, with a tour through it’s most famous monasteries.

First up is Voronet, also known as the “Sistine Chapel of the East”. It is believed to be the most famous painted monastery founded in 1487 by Stephen the Great (Stefan cel Mare). Besides numerous frescoes featuring an intense shade of blue known as the “Voronet blue”, the monastery also features portraits of ancient Greek philosophers such as Aristotle and Plato.

Following our trail, we will come across the Humor Monastery, founded in 1530 and is one of Bucovina’s treasures with a variety of frescoes from 1535 and an extremely valuable collection of icons from the 16th century displayed here.

The Putna Monastery was practically rebuilt between 1653 and 1662 by Vasile Lupu and his successors. The imposing Putna Monastery is situated about 30 km northwest from the town of Radauti, near the Putna River. High, forested hills and wild landscape surround the monastery and the village with the same name.

And that’s not all, we still have 2 monasteries to cross off our list. The Sucevita Monastery, included on the UNESCO Heritage List on 1 August 2010 and is the only church that includes a representation of The Ladder of St. John. This classic church with its five rooms, shows the first new architectural tendencies: smaller niches, and three bases for the tower. The frescoes are very remarkable, colorful and well preserved.

And finally, the Moldovita Monastery. Alexander the Kind built the first monastery hotels in Moldovita on the banks of the Moldoviţa River at the beginning of the 15th century. The exterior paintings are the best preserved of all the churches of Bucovina.

Then we get to return to Iasi, marking this the end of our tour.
