Arges Court Monastery, Poenari Fortress
Tour Details

If this was a movie, it would take 3-4 sequels just to do it justice. But it’s not a movie, it’s a tour. A tour of mystery, of excitement. This is what Dracula has left behind for us to find. The goal here is to follow the course of his life. Where was he born, where did he live, where did he die? These and a whole lot of other questions will be answered. We wanted to divide this tour into several parts; that’s because there’s a lot of ground to cover in a short period of time. It would be nice to learn the complete history in one go, but nowadays, time is very precious. Like we said before, imagine this is a movie…a trilogy if you will. Maybe you have seen part I and you want to see the rest. Maybe you have only seen part II and you’re right in the middle of the story. Keep in mind that you can combine these tours if you want (the trilogy) but then it will take more than one day of visiting.

One Day TourBucharest-Arges Court Monastery-Poenari Fortress

For the final part of the Dracula Trilogy tour, our first stop is the Arges Court Monastery, founded in the time of Neagoe Basarab, between 1512 and 1517. Without giving too much away, the building process of this monastery is part of famous Romanian legend “The legend of master Manole”. The legend says that the best fortified churches are built with a human being inside the walls, to better sustain it from falling apart.

And to wrap things off with a bang, we have the Poenari Fortress, on top of the Cetatuia Mountain; to reach it you have to climb 1480 stairs but I guarantee you that it is worth it. This fortress was the refugee of Vlad the Impaler, when hiding from the Ottomans. There are many legends about this place; one of them says that the fortress was the inspiration for the Jules Verne novel “”The Carpathian Castle”.

Loved the citadel of Vlad the impaler, where he was fighting. It is a very nice place where it takes some time to climb more than 1000 stairs. But during this period, our guide was talking and we were never bored. I took some amazing pictures and can not wait to show to all my friends.

Nothing was too much trouble and everything was organised without fuss. We undertook quite a road trip around Romania and I was so sad when it came to an end. I fully intend to book another trip with Finding Romania and advise anyway travelling to this beautiful country to do the same. You won’t be disappointed
