Tour Details

If this was a movie, it would take 3-4 sequels just to do it justice. But it’s not a movie, it’s a tour. A tour of mystery, of excitement. This is what Dracula has left behind for us to find. The goal here is to follow the course of his life. Where was he born, where did he live, where did he die? These and a whole lot of other questions will be answered. We wanted to divide this tour into several parts; that’s because there’s a lot of ground to cover in a short period of time. It would be nice to learn the complete history in one go, but nowadays, time is very precious. Like we said before, imagine this is a movie…a trilogy if you will. Maybe you have seen part I and you want to see the rest. Maybe you have only seen part II and you’re right in the middle of the story. Keep in mind that you can combine these tours if you want (the trilogy) but then it will take more than one day of visiting.

Day 1Bucharest-Bran-Rasnov-Brasov

In this second part of our trilogy, we are going to focus on one of the most well-known places of the Dracula mythology, the Bran Castle, which is our first destination. The castle was first stated in official documents in a letter written in 1377 by the Hungarian Ludovic I D’Ánjou giving the inhabitants of Brasov the privilege to build the citadel in the place of the old stronghold. Its purpose was for defense and commercial use. Many legends are connected with Bran Castle, one of them saying that the castle belonged to Count Dracula himself.

Because we’re in the area, there’s another place worth visiting, on our way to Brasov, which is the Rasnov Fortress, one of the best preserved rustic citadels from Transylvania. Its main purpose was defense for the Transylvanian villages that were exposed to attacks.

Finally, towards the afternoon, we’re off to Brasov, founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211. Its medieval ambiance is present today as it was back in the day, especially in the old Town Hall Square. Here you can take a peek inside the Black Church – the largest Gothic church in Romania, and pass through the narrowest street in Europe, the Rope Street.

Day 2Brasov-Rupea Fortress-Sighisoara

First thing, if we do not get the chance to do it the day before, is to visit the city of Brasov.

Next up is the Rupea Fortress, one of the most beautiful medieval castles in Romania, located in Rupea, at the border of Brasov County and Mures County on top of Cohalm hill.Over the time the castle served as a fortress and refuge for the people living in the neighboring hills and valleys.

Reach another important highlight of our tour is the wonderful medieval city of Sighisoara, founded in the 12th century by the Transylvanian Saxons. Designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this town is the birthplace of Vlad Dracula, also known as Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), ruler of the province of Walachia from 1456 to 1462.

Day 3Sighisoara-Bucharest

This day marks the end of part 2 of our Dracula Trilogy, in which we return to Bucharest.

Brasov itself is beautiful and a nice visit. Definitely recommend anyone to go and visit Romania – it’s still affordable and the people are very friendly.

We visited Brasov including the famous Bran Castle. I’m normally not a fan of the touristy site visits, but this castle is a real must-see. And our guide John was very nice in explaining the backstory.

Took my kids to see the castle that everyone is talking about and they were not dissapointed. They loved the legend behind Dracula as much as they could believe. Andrei is the best tour guide when it comes to kids because he is very patient. Would definitely come again and visit more.

I have a lot of friends in Romania and this was the perfect opportunity to meet them. I took the Dracula tour because it was something I always wanted to see. I would recommend the Bran castle to anyone interested in seeing what makes it so special.
