Tour Details

If this was a movie, it would take 3-4 sequels just to do it justice. But it’s not a movie, it’s a tour. A tour of mystery, of excitement. This is what Dracula has left behind for us to find. Tthe goal here is to follow the course of his life. Where was he born, where did he live, where did he die? These and a whole lot of other questions will be answered. We wanted to divide this tour into several parts; that’s because there’s a lot of ground to cover in a short period of time. It would be nice to learn the complete history in one go, but nowadays, time is very precious. Like we said before, imagine this is a movie…a trilogy if you will. Maybe you have seen part I and you want to see the rest. Maybe you have only seen part II and you’re right in the middle of the story. Keep in mind that you can combine these tours if you want (the trilogy) but then it will take more than one day of visiting.

One Day TourBucharest-Targoviste-Snagov

We start off in the morning, visiting the oldest princely residence in Bucharest, most probably founded in the late 14th century, but the first recorded document about a fortress (or a princely palace) in this place is dated September 20, 1459, issued by Prince Vlad III Dracula -the prince commonly referred to as Tepes, “The Impaler”, whose bust today watches over the vestiges of his palace.

And because the next 2 destinations are pretty close to Bucharest, we’re going to go straight to Targoviste next, the medieval capital of Wallachia, a location where Vlad ruled following his father and grandfather. It is said to be the first place where Vlad used his trademark torture – the impalement – trying to bring justice after a group of noblemen murdered his father and brother in an attempt to overtake the throne. Vlad’s mansion, the Great Church which is an exquisite Romanian architectural site decorated with valuable frescoes dating the 16th century, Chindia tower used for defense and also treasury are places to visit here.

And on or way back to Bucharest, there’s another place worth seeing on the way; the Snagov Monastery, one of the alleged burial sites of Vlad the Impaler (famous for having inspired Bram Stoker’s character Dracula), which is located on an island on the northern part of the lake.

Even if Dracula is a made up character, I did enjoy the stories and the legend. The guide was good and knew everything we asked. Maybe one day you can organize a trip on the lake next to the monastery. Thanks.

Finding Romania was very good to us because they had the patience to show us everything without ever mentioning the time. My husband takes his time to fully absorb the information and that’s why sometimes it can get difficult for the others; but Andrei was super nice and next time we are here we are going to choose him again. Thank you very much!
