Tour Details

Maybe most of you know that the Carpathians are pretty close to Bucharest, and maybe many of you already visited Brasov, or Bran, or Sinaia, some of the country’s most famous attractions. But what if there’s more things to see, something that’s even closer to the city? How about a monastery or a palace? These can both be visited in one day. Follow us in discovering some of the places that you probably won’t find in most travel guides. The Mogosoaia Palace and the Snagov Monastery.

One Day Tour

The first attraction on this tour is the Snagov Monastery, one of the alleged burial sites of Vlad the Impaler (famous for having inspired Bram Stoker’s character Dracula), which is located on an island on the northern part of the lake. Who knew that Dracula himself might just well be buried here?

After that, another place that’s pretty famous to the inhabitants of Bucharest. Why? Well, it’s not because of its history or significance, but because of its beauty; believe it or not, a lot of couples come here for photo shoots, before their wedding. Look it up, convince yourself.

But about the palace itself, it was built in 1702 by Prince Constantin Brancoveanu, for his son Stefan, in a Romanian Renaissance architectural style or Brancovan style. The ensemble includes the chapel, the gate tower, Elchingen House, (known in the Communist era as “The Writers’House”), the ice house, The”Kapussi Pasha”Gate, the administrative buildings, the restaurant (about 1960), the premises, the park, and the lake.

Two unique places, two different stories, both interesting in their own way. After visiting, it’s time to go back to the city.

What a great experience. Even though we did something as simple as a small trip outside Bucharest. Would highly recommend Finding Romania to others. A great way to discover Romania.

I would have never thought that Vlad Dracula was buried at a monastery, especially close to Bucharest. Nevertheless, this was a great tour and highly recommended if you have little time to spare.
