Travelers we Meet: Clare Colley

It’s no secret that we love meeting new people that tell us where to travel. And in today’s world, you can do just about anything when it comes to establishing and building relationships.

Social media keeps us connected with each other through pictures, videos and blog posts. This is how we managed to deliver our message across the world; that our goal is to promote Romania. And of course, to do that, you need the people, the travelers that make this possible every day. The travelers hungry to discover something new, something unique, something that will stay with them forever.

Today, it is an absolute pleasure to introduce Clare Colley to you. Sharing experiences is something that we strongly believe in. This is her story:

France, Majorca

“The first time I went abroad was on a school trip to France at age 13 and the first time I flew was when I was 21, to Majorca. My passion for travel didn’t really start until this point. When I was growing up we would spend our holidays in UK, either on the south coast or north east coast. For my first few holidays abroad, I would explore the islands I was visiting rather than spending time on the beach or by the pool.”

San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, England

“I then got to the stage where I could afford holidays and time off work but my friends couldn’t. So, one of them suggested doing a group tour. The first one I picked was from San Francisco to Los Angeles via Las Vegas. This was an amazing trip (though I later found out I don’t like camping in the cold!!). After that there was no stopping me, I would normally do 2-3 week trips a year. Eventually though this was not enough for me, and after yet another flight home, crying at the thought of returning to England, I made the decision to sell my house, quit my job and go travelling alone.”

Peru (Arequipa)

“Finally the day came to quit work, which was scary but also very exciting as a new chapter in my life was starting. One month later, my backpack was packed and I was saying goodbye to my friends and family. I had never traveled alone previously and so when I arrived in Arequipa, Peru for the first part of my journey, I got stuck for a while; but after meeting lots of people in my hostel and hearing their stories I was on the road to get to Argentina for my next flight, 5 months later.

New Zealand, Colombia & Mexico

“Now, after 4 years, I still love it. It’s the best decision I ever made. I have met so many great people along the way and I wouldn’t change any of it. People at home were negative when I said what I was doing, but what it there to lose. If I didn’t like it, I could have returned home, got another house and another job. But I needed to know; and for me, it’s the best thing I ever did. I’ve been very lucky to work along the way in New Zealand, Colombia & Mexico which was a great experience. “

5 continents and 25 countries in the past 4 years and 52 countries in total

“But the last 2 years has just been travelling. I’ve visited 5 continents and 25 countries in the past 4 years and 52 countries in total. I am not sure if I will ever stop. I guess the travel bug never leaves, once it catches you.”
