Travelers we Meet: Heather Marie

OK, by now you know what we do, what our mission is, what makes us different. But what about the people? The ones that are travelling? Our friends, our colleagues? The best part of this industry is that you get to meet new people every day, from all over the world. How do you get yourself recognized? Well, you interact with people that share the same passions as you. One of them is Heather Marie from the United States. Yes, Finding Romania has crossed the ocean.

We asked Heather to send us a short text about her. As you know, we are all about the people, their thoughts, their experiences. This is what she had to say:

“I began my fascination with travel at a very young age when my mother let me decorate my room for the first time. I cut out images from all the magazines I could find and taped them all over my walls. Floor to ceiling my walls were covered with images of Paris, fashion, and inspiring words of empowerment. I dreamed of seeing Paris first, then the rest of the Europe became a fascination the older I got. By the time I was old enough to actually take an international trip on my own, I was fully immersed into my career in the cosmetic industry. I kept climbing the ladder instead of pursuing my real dream to write and see the world. I did this until I hit a depressed state right after I turned 22. I called it a quarter life crisis and figured it would pass eventually. When I was approaching 26 and dealing with the same daily mental struggle, while still powering through my “big girl job,” I hit my point. Everyone has one, and I hit mine head on. I knew I had to make a change before another five years and two promotions went by. I had to follow my heart and take a leap of faith- for once in my life.

So, last August, I quit my job, sold all of my belongings and bought a backpack and a one-way ticket to Europe. Fast forward two and a half months later and I am happier than I have ever been in my life. I am present everyday and anxious for what the future holds. I am writing daily and gaining more and more viewership on my blog and Instagram which inspires me to keep sharing. Now, I am a homeless, wandering nomad princess with nothing but a backpack and my passport and I couldn’t be happier about it. I will continue to travel across the globe, making a complete circle, for the next year. There’s no telling what the next year will bring, but if the last two months are any indicator, it will continue to be reassurance that traveling solo and leaving my life behind was the best decision I have ever made in my life. I encourage everyone to follow their heart and DO NOT wait years. Don’t wait to hit your rock bottom, do it now. If travel is what your heart wants, do yourself a favor and go see the world. It will change your life in the most spectacular way and nothing can take that experience away from you.”

She is going to travel with us this Halloween. Check out our Instagram to see why Heather chose Romania as her upcoming destination. See you at Dracula’s Castle, Heather.

And a big thanks to “Girls Who Travel”, the place where we meet great new people, every day.
