Delta Fairy Tale

HISTORY, NATURE

The Danube Delta, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, lies, for the most part, in Romania. The diverse fauna and the uniqueness of the landscape, makes the Danube Delta one of the most desirable destinations in Romania.

  • Danube Delta Romania Water Wildlife

The Danube Delta, the second largest river in Europe, after Volga Delta, is the best preserved on the continent. It lies between the three Danube arms (Chilia–north, Sulina and Sfantu Gheorghe-south). With an approximate surface of 1,603 sq mi (4,152 km2), the Danube Delta began to form after 4000 BCE in a bay of the Black Sea.

(Please note that the order of the activities may change).

DAY 1:

  • When you arrive at the Otopeni International Airport in Bucharest, the first thing we do is check-in the hotel. Then, depending on your arrival time, we will do the afternoon or the evening city tour. Here you will find the full details.

DAY 2:

  • Are you ready to go? Had breakfast yet? Great, then it’s off to the most unique place in the world, the Danube Delta, the second largest river in Europe, after Volga Delta, and it is the best preserved on the continent. It lies between the three Danube arms (Chilia–north, Sulina and Sfantu Gheorghe-south). With an approximate surface of 1,603 sq mi (4,152 km2), the Danube Delta began to form after 4000 BCE in a bay of the Black Sea. Probably 40% of today’s Delta was built in the last 1000 years.

  • When we arrive there, first thing we do is check-in at the hotel in the heart of the Delta. This will be the base for our coming and going throughout our raids on the Danube rivers.

  • After check-in we will have lunch at the hotel. And there’s no excuse that after a wonderful meal you have to rest. No no, get ready cause we will go and visit two splendid citadels: Histria and Enisala.

  • After returning at the hotel we will have dinner and enjoy the quietness of the Danube surroundings at sunset, preparing for an astonishing next day.

DAY 3:

  • We will leave early today; our breakfast is waiting for us on a boat! We will go to Tulcea and jump on board of a ship which will guide us throughout Danube Delta’s arm Sulina for two days!

  • After a welcome cocktail and breakfast, the ship will head on channel 36 to one of the largest cormorants colony on Danube Delta. This will be the perfect place for film and photography lovers, so bring your cameras for an awesome birdwatching session! If you are good enough, you can record footage here that is worthy of National Geographic documentaries. But hey, have a look at our short video posted on our website to see what we mean.

  • The afternoon is approaching, so it’s time for us to serve the lunch onboard!

  • Afterwards we will go see the swans’ paradise. This place is isolated, which means that these delicate birds chose the place as their natural incubator. So we are not talking about a tourist attraction; we are talking about nature itself, the way it was always intended to be. All natural. The dinner will be organized on the shore, beside a beautiful campfire. After dinner, it’s time to rest.

DAY 4:

  • Good morning! Let’s start this beautiful day with a good breakfast that is waiting to be served onboard!

  • The ship will head quietly through channel 36 towards Tulcea Harbour where we will host a farewell party. But that’s a surprise, so let’s keep it to ourselves.

  • In Tulcea we will visit the Danube Delta museum before dinner. After the visit, sadly, it’s time to go back to Bucharest, where we will spend the night, preparing for your departure the next day.
